- Perfect for Halloween parties
- Easy to make ahead
- Kid-friendly and fun to bake

Ingredients
You’ll need:
- 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 ¼ cups granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- Yellow food coloring
- Orange food coloring

How to Make Candy Corn Sugar Cookies
1. Make the Sugar Cookie Dough
Preheat your oven to 350°F and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
In a separate large bowl, beat the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the egg and vanilla extract and mix until combined.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing just until a soft cookie dough forms.
2. Divide and Color the Dough
Divide the dough evenly into three portions.
Leave one portion plain for the white layer.
Add orange food coloring to the second portion and knead or mix until evenly colored.
Add yellow food coloring to the third portion and mix until evenly colored.

3. Create the Candy Corn Layers
Line a loaf pan with plastic wrap or parchment paper, leaving enough hanging over the edges to easily remove the dough later.
Press the yellow dough evenly into the bottom of the pan.
Press the orange dough over the yellow layer.
Finally, press the plain dough over the orange layer.
Cover and refrigerate for approximately 1–2 hours, or until the dough is firm enough to slice.
4. Cut Into Candy Corn Shapes
Remove the chilled dough from the loaf pan.
Slice the dough into approximately ¼-inch-thick slices. Cut each slice into small triangles to create the classic candy corn shape.
Don’t worry if every cookie isn’t identical—a little variation makes homemade cookies even cuter!
5. Bake
Arrange the cookies on your prepared baking sheet, leaving about 2 inches between each cookie.
Bake for 8–10 minutes, or until the cookies are set and the edges are just beginning to turn golden.
Avoid overbaking if you want that deliciously soft sugar cookie texture!
Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes before transferring them to a cooling rack.

Tips for the Best Candy Corn Sugar Cookies
Chill the dough. This is especially important because it helps the cookies maintain their cute triangular shape while baking.
Use gel food coloring. Gel coloring creates vibrant orange and yellow colors without adding too much liquid to your cookie dough.
Don’t overbake. Pull the cookies from the oven when they’re set but still look slightly soft in the center.
Keep your layers even. Try to make each layer roughly the same thickness so every cookie has that recognizable candy corn appearance.
Use a sharp knife. A sharp knife makes it much easier to create clean slices and triangles.
Do These Cookies Taste Like Candy Corn?
Nope! Despite their appearance, these cookies taste like classic buttery vanilla sugar cookies.
They’re simply designed to look like candy corn, which makes them a great option for people who love the look of candy corn but aren’t necessarily fans of the candy itself.

Can I Add Actual Candy Corn?
Absolutely! If you’re a serious candy corn lover, you can serve these alongside a bowl of candy corn or add a few pieces to your Halloween dessert platter.
I wouldn’t recommend pressing candy corn directly into the cookies before baking because the candy can melt and become messy in the oven.
How to Store Candy Corn Sugar Cookies
Store your cooled cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for about 4–5 days.
For longer storage, freeze the baked cookies in a freezer-safe container for up to 2–3 months. Allow them to thaw at room temperature before serving.
